Chickpea And Sweet Potato Chaat Recipe

Sweet potato is a tangy, spicy, crunchy chaat, very popular street food in Delhi. This is similar to the other charts but the healthier version. In this chaat sweet potatoes are tossed with veggies, spices and chaat masala. On the other hand, the smoky flavor of the street chaat you might not get at home, but it still tastes awesome. You can feel the combo of different flavors in every bite of this chaat.

Above all, this chaat mostly enjoyed in winters, festival season, or during fasting. Why during fasting? because this is healthy, keeps you full for along and easy to make. Customize this chaat according to your taste, avoid few spices when you are making during fasting. Even though there are different versions of making a chaat, today I’m showing my recipe. I added chopped raw mango to this recipe, you can skip that if the mango is not available.

How to make sweet potato chaat:

To make this sweet potato chaat, first, boil the sweet potatoes and slice them. After that roast them with salt and pepper. ( To get the smoky flavor I boiled and fried the sweet potatoes. But you can skip the roasting part if you want). Then take a mixing bowl and add boiled chana, sweet potatoes, chopped cucumber, onions, and tomatoes. And toss them. After that add the yogurt/curd, chaat masala, chili powder, sweet chutney, mango pieces and mix them well. Serve this as an evening snack.

Sweet potatoes: This is the star ingredient of this recipe. Sweet potatoes are a nutritious and rich source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Spices: Spices like chaat masala, chili powder, green chilis are used in this recipe. As you know, chaat masala adds a tangy flavor to this recipe. Chili powder and green chilis add spiciness to the chaat. Similarly, the Chopped coriander is also added to this recipe.

Veggies: Chopped onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers are added in this recipe. They add the crunchiness to this recipe. Along with that boiled chana also included. As I told customize this chaat according to your taste, sprouts, pomegranate seeds, also you can add to this chaat.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups boiled sweet potatoes
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp salt adjust
  • 1 pinch pepper powder
  • 1/2 cup boiled chana
  • 1/4 cup chopped cucumber
  • 1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped carrots
  • 1 tbsp chopped green chilis
  • 1/4 cup chopped onions
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander
  • 1/4 cup curd
  • 1 tbsp chaat masala
  • 1/2 tbsp chili powder
  • 3 tbsp chapped mango pieces
  • 1 tbsp sweet sauce
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

Instructions

pre preparation:

  • First, boil the sweet potatoes and cut them into slices. After that press them between your palms. So that they become think slices.
  • Soak the white chana for 8hrs or overnight. And boil them in the pressure cooker with some salt.
  • After that chop veggie, green chilis, raw mango and keep them in separate bowls. ,

preparation:

  • Heat the oil in the pan and add sweet potato slices to the pan and roast them until on the medium flame until they turn golden brown. Sprinkle some salt and pepper in between.
  • Turn them in between so that they can fry equally on both sides. Don't burn the slices.
  • Take a mixing bowl and add boiled chana, chopped onions, chopped coriander leaves, curd, chaat masala, salt, chili powder, and sweet potatoes. Toss them and mix them well.
  • After that add the cubed mango, sweet sauce, and lemon juice to the bowl and mix again. Now check the taste and if anything needed.
  • Serve this healthy chaat as a evening snack.

To make sweet potato curry first heat the oil in the pan and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and let them splatter. Then add the curry leaves, ginger, sliced onions, and green chilis. Fry them until the onions turn tender. After that add the chopped tomatoes and fry them until they become mushy. Now add the salt, turmeric powder, chili powder, garam masala, coriander powder.

Stir them well with the onion and tomatoes. Fry them for 1 min. After that add the cubed sweet potatoes and mix them with spices. Fry them 2 mins and then add water. Cook them until they become soft on medium flame. Serve sweet potato curry with rice or roti.

Aloo Tikki chaat:

To make aloo Tikki chaat, first, prepare the aloo Tikki. For that, first, boil the potatoes in the pressure cooker and peel and mash them. After that add the salt, turmeric powder, chili powder, chaat masala, aam chur powder, and mix them well. Now add the chopped coriander leaves and chopped onions and combine them with potato mixture. Adjust the flavor.

After that make equal size balls and press them as Tikkis. Now shallow very the or deep fry them until they turn golden brown. Now take a serving plate and place aloo Tikki in the middle. After that add the curd on the top of aloo Tikki. Then add the green chutney and tamarind chutney. After that add the sav on the top and serve immediately.
